Journalism 101
If you are a middle or high school student and you would like to learn the ins and outs of journalism, report on events and individuals in your community or at your school, or submit arts reviews, this is the place for you.
KNW will take you through the process of writing an article, editing your article, and publishing it through your network and KNW Experiences.
This is a free youth service. KNW Experiences is seeking financial supporters and donations for this effort.
Starting Summer 2026
While middle and high school may offer Journalism as an elective or after-school activity, too often students do not have room in their schedules, are denied access to the class, or are simply too busy after school. This effort is to teach and support freedom of the press. KNW Experiences is looking for students who want to work on writing, research, interviewing, and editing skills.
Whether you live in Maryland, California, or overseas, this program is designed to "tell the story" of individuals or events in your community or school. Journalism 101 will also work with students to review a variety of arts submissions. Maybe you would like to review a movie you love, a piece of art you find powerful, etc.; this is the place for you. The program will adhere to standard middle and high school expectations in terms of professional writing skills and communication.
While this is a free program for students, space will be limited. Students will also work with KNW Experiences to literally build an online newspaper from scratch. Students will be involved in design, editing, fundraising, and publishing at each level. The program will meet online.
